Social media marketing skill is an essential skill you must have to succeed as a digital marketer. A lot of digital marketers relegates the social media to the background, and do not take it seriously. But the power of social media in digital marketing is enormous, because it has the capacity of turning your connections and networks to potential client's and customers and generate sales. Social media marketing skills is necessary in your quest to becoming a great digital marketer. I'll be discussing more about the various social networking platforms in my subsequent posts.
5. Copy-writing Skills: Copy-writing skills is another important skill you must possess if you really want to become a great digital marketer and stand-out from the crowd. There's absolutely no doubt that, succeeding in social media business as a social business owner, requires you to target the right audience who are in-tandem with your business, and build a strong connection & lasting relationship with them. Targeting and connecting with the right market in your social media business will help to expand it to a wider market and audience participation .Who are your target market or user? Or which category of people do you advertise your business to on social media. This is one question you must begin to reflect on, in order to discover some of the factors that might be stalling the success of your social media business. Do you make the mistake of connecting with, and advertising your business to every Tom, Dick and Harry on social networking sites? Without really finding out if they're interested in what you do? Without doing this, you might be building the wrong connections, which will certainly make your social media business inefficient. It isn't about how many Facebook page likes your Business page gets on Facebook, nor how many Twitter and Pinterest followers you have, neither nor how many Linkedin connections you can boast about. What is more important is how many of your fans, followers and connections on social media are ready to engage with you on this social platforms or even take a second look at your posts, tweets and updates. The social media revolution ostensibly took effect in 2004 when Mark Zuckerberg launched Facebook. Facebook until today has remained the biggest social networking platform in the world with over one billion users. Like every other revolution that took place in the world, the industrial and technological revolutions. Social media revolution which is also an offshoot of the technological revolution has greatly impacted postively on the world. It has made connections and interactions with different people across the globe easier, irrespective of where in the globe you are. It has also changed the way we do business and make advertising and reaching out to everyone on the internet easier. There's no gainsaying that the social media has made Companies, business organizations, agencies, NGO's, and every other business owners connecting and building a closer relationship with their customers or clients, friends, employees or colleagues more easier in the last one decade. Therefore the social media can be said to have helped in bringing businesses scattered all over the world more closer to the people. Two Basic Ingredients Of A Great Content.

"Content Is King". Often have i heard this old phrase. But in social media and content marketing, and also to avoid "content blindness" not just any kind of content, but "Quality Content Is King". A great or quality content is great, not because it is very lengthy and filled with rhetorics. But because it contains two basic and essential ingredients. A very compelling and conspicous content title will make anyone want to click on the link to the blog or website wherever it is shared on any social media platform. While a great content will keep online readers coming back to such blogs or websites to read more. Hence, you need to know the two basic qualities of a great content. Because lack of these two fundamental ingredients might actually be turning off both your current and potential readers. What are the two basic qualities of a great content? Every great content must embody "Information" and "Entertainment" which is what i call "Infotainment". Information and entertainment are the two main qualities that must not be lacking in any great content. Every great content must be very informative and at the same time entertaining. The informative aspect of the content must seek to educate your readers or inform them about trending issues, or something they seem not to have enough knowledge about, through writing. While the entertainment part of your content is intended to entertain them. Make them feel relaxed and interested in reading your content. This can be achieved through your writing style, that is, by making your writing more communicative. Another way of keeping your content entertaining is by attaching relevant pictures or videos to that particular content, for the viewing pleasures of your readers. A lot of people are so attracted to pictures, that they cannot read a particular content for a very long time unless it's entertaining with some pictures embedded in it. All the whole concept of infotainment and infographics must be employed in other to create a great content.

There are myriad of challenges that are associated with social media marketing. As a social media marketer, what challenges are you currently facing in your social media marketing experience? I want you to understand that life itself is full challenges, and there's no area of life you're attempting to succeed in, that's without its own challenges. Hence, social media marketing is not without its own challenges, and you must work hard to overcome these challenges, to be able to make your social media marketing experiences worthwhile. What is social media marketing to you as a social media marketer? You may have a personal interpretation and understanding of what social media marketing is, and different people will also give different opinions and understanding of what social media marketing is to them. However, irrespective of our diverse understandings, opinions and interpretations we may give to it, i believe there are two words that are common to everyone, which are: "Social Media" and "Marketing". When you hear of these two words, what comes to your mind? Is it the conventional method of marketing we are used to, where you bring your products or services to social media and start selling? If you say social media marketing is the process of using the social media to market your business, you're right. But the question is, how are you going to use the social media to advertise and market your business? A lot of social media marketers dabble into social media marketing without really understanding the concept, and how it works. Well, on general term, social media marketing is simply the process of marketing your business through the social media and not on social media. Hence, there must be a link somewhere that connects your business with social media. If that link is not there or is missing, then your social media marketing is incomplete. What i'm saying in a nutshell is that, for you to succeed in social media marketing, you must get your business website or blog up and running, and ensure your business have established presence on the major social media platforms like: Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Pinterest, Google plus, Instagram, Foresquare etc. Now we can boldly say that social media marketing is the process of driving traffic from all these social media platforms to your business blog and website. And this is where the link that connects your business with these social networking sites is necessary. However, this is not without some challenges. To be able to pull traffic from these social networking sites to your blog or website, must certainly have some challenges to overcome. Now, lets take a look at few of these challenges. The first and foremost challenge of social media marketing is the challenge of creating, "Trending and Quality Contents". In social media marketing, content is king. Not just any kind of content, but trending and quality content is king. Creating trending and quality content is one of the major challenge a lot of social media marketers are confronted with. Trending contents is a content that's in line with current trends in your niche. While, quality contents will keep readers coming back to your blog or website. Without creating trending and quality contents on your business blog or website, you'll not be able to drive traffic to your website or blog from social networking platforms. You can overcome this challenge by research about trending issues in your niche, and create quality contents that will bring solutions to people's problems and help them find what they've been seeking for. You must keep up-to-date with current and issues that are trending in your niche, and avoid creating blind contents that will not drive traffic to blog or website. Another challenge faced by social media marketers, is the challenge of, "Sharing Your Contents To The Right People On Social Media". This is also a major challenge most social media marketers are confronted with. As a social media marketer, you need to determine the right people to share your contents with on social media. Sharing your contents with the right people will make your social media marketing experience very effective and efficient. Because, the right people who are interested in your niche, must click on the link to your business blog and website to read more. Consequently, to overcome this challenge, i'll urge all social media marketers to go a step further to building a more closer relationship with their fans, followers and customers on social media. They should create a Facebook page and group, Twitter list, Linkedin group and Google hangouts. And share their contents with their fans, followers and customers there, rather than on the general social media accounts. Twitter is best for building real followers who are interested and loyal to your niche on social media. Having established the fact that companies and business organizations should as a matter of importance, begin to review their social Customer Relationship Marketing (sCRM) in my previous post. The next question now is, how can they begin to build and develop a very effective sCRM that will boost their social media business marketing? For companies and business organization to build an effective sCRM, i will suggest they include sCRM as a program in their PR department and make it an integral part of their company and organization. A lot of people on social media will find it time wasting to click on your link on various social networking to your business blog or website if the title of your content does not seem to answer their questions or meet their needs. This is where a lot of social media marketers fail, they share irrelevant contents on social media, and are probably totally disconnected from the quest and yearnings of their fans, followers and connections. As a social media marketer you need to research and discover what majority of the people are looking for, and see how your business can meet those needs and impact on their lives. When you discover those needs, it then becomes an opportunity for you to sell your business to them through creating quality and compelling contents and share it on various social media platforms. For people to have the courage of abandoning other important things they're doing on social media or which they've planned to do, to click on the link to your business blog or website to take action, there must be some level of creativity in choosing your content link title. But i personally don't like using it, at least for now, because it sucks, and i'll tell you why it sucks. I discovered that majority of those succeeding in email marketing are marketers who have become somewhat famous in their business and they've got a lot of loyal cutomers and subscribers. Online marketers and business blog or website owners like: Copyblogger, Problogger, All blogging tips and other famous bloggers and web masters who have a good number of followers, subcribers, and their blog or website generates high amount of daily traffic will definitely succeed in email marketing. This is because their business, blog or website has been tested and trusted, and it has become so popular on the internet, hence they've gathered a lot of fans, subscribers and customers who can't wait to see latest updates about their business. It actually takes time to start succeeding with using email marketing as tool for marketing your business online. As a new online business owner, blogger or web master, don't expect to start achieving success or start driving traffic to your blog or website through email marketing,you can be sure that you'll not get any single click to your blog or website through those emails,and you're not going to achieve much with email marketing. I will advice you not to go into email marketing if you're a new blogger or website owner, or your business is new. You need to first establish yourself and your business properly on the internet before starting email marketing. Until your business has garnered so much popularity on the internet, and your blog or website is becoming increasingly visited and generates good number of daily online traffic with loyal subscribers, then email marketing isn't yet for you. Rather than use email marketing as a tool for marketing your business, i'll suggest you make use of Content marketing and Social media marketing. You need to keep creating and publishing good contents about your business on the internet and share them to all the social networking sites where your business have a presence. This will certainly establish you and your business properly on the internet and carve out a niche for it. Another reason why i said email marketing sucks, is that from my survey and experiences, i discovered that of all the online marketing tools and various traffic sources, email marketing actually generates and drives the least traffic to blogs and websites or generate clicks that converts to sales. This is because of the general aparthy of people towards opening and reading their emails. How many people this days login to their email account, opens their mailbox and read their mails? Quite very few people do that. I personally read emails once a day, and i believe a lot of people do same. I believe there's a general aparthy towards reading emails nowadays, probably because of the advent of social media. A lot of persons spends more time on social media, and some even spends the whole day chatting with friends, and engaging in all kinds of social interaction. The social media has made a lot of people to forget about login into their email account to read mails, only very few people do. Another reason why email marketing sucks and does not generate clicks that converts. This is consequent upon some of the mistakes a lot of marketers make in sending emails to their subscribers. Sometimes frequent sending of emails about your business might be boring to your subscribers. Innundating their mailbox daily might be frustrating, and will make them discard your emails. It's boring to open your mailbox and see it innundated with various mails coming from a particular source. This attitude can be debilitating to your subscribers and make them loose interest in opening and reading your mails, or click on the link to your blog or website. You need to have a specific time you send them mails about your business,and let your subscribers be aware of that time. Avoid innundating their mailbox daily with different emails, sending out two or three mails a day is more reasonable, and easier for them to click, open and read it. Share your thoughts.
